For the 7th and final consecutive year, Julia’s Wings Foundation partnered with the Kent Chamber of Commerce to bring Team Julia’s Wings to the Kent Pumpkin Run on October 27, 2019. 5th Annual Evening of Hope
Quaker Hill Country Club- Pawling, NY - June 2, 2018
Julia’s Wings Foundation would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of our guests, those who made donations, volunteers and sponsors that made the 5th Annual Evening of Hope the success it was!
Together we were able to raise $30,000 to give hope to children and families affected by aplastic anemia. We were honored to have Dr. Lisa Minter, Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts as our guest speaker. Her personal connection to our cause, combined with her articulate and heartfelt comments moved every person in the room. In addition, we had two very special families join us this year. The Stoutenborough family from California and The Pervis family from Pennsylvania. Both of these families have children who were affected by this disease and are huge supporters of our mission to raise awareness as well as funds to provide family assistance and advance research on the disease. We are truly grateful to each and every person who volunteers, gives money or supports this journey to honor Julia's wish. Together we will continue to "Shine Bright for the Kids". |
5th Annual Team Julia's Wings at the Kent Pumpkin Run
Despite the bad weather, Julia’s Wings once again soared through the streets of Kent at our 5th annual Team Julia’s Wings at the Kent Pumpkin Run (October 30, 2017)! That Sunday afternoon in the town of Kent, we were united for a cause, and brought together in memory of Julia, her fight and her story.
Team Julia’s Wings comprised approximately half of the race participants including the volunteers the day of the race as well as the runners, walkers and supporters! We want to thank the Kent Chamber of Commerce for allowing us to be part of such an amazing event. I truly cannot think of a better way to honor Julia’s beautiful memory than by the hundreds of people who gathered together in our neighboring community on a rainy Sunday, smiling, laughing, crying, running, walking... remembering. From the bottom of our hearts we are so grateful for the continued support from all of our participants, donors and sponsors and to our amazing board and event committee! With your help we raised enough money to help up to 30 families. |

3rd Annual Operation Wear Red for Aplastic Anemia Awareness
The 3rd Annual #OperationWearRed Campaign for Aplastic Anemia Awareness (February 27 - March 4, 2017) was an amazing group effort! We are happy to report that hundreds of people in 43 states and across the world participated in the campaign through social media, displaying red ribbons and lights, sharing information, raising funds and more! Proclamations were made in 4 cities or towns, spurring people to action! The creativity and enthusiasm was nothing short of amazing. With the help of many, the Julia's Wings Foundation was successful in educating thousands of people about aplastic anemia and the importance of registering as a bone marrow donor. THANK YOU!
It was Julia's wish that no child battling aplastic anemia be alone in the hospital, and it is in her honor that we raise funds and awareness to combat this terrible disease. Because of the generosity all those who participated in OWR awareness and fundraising activities, parents will not have to choose between caring for their child, purchasing gas to get to appointments, paying their electric bills or putting food on their tables. Of particular note were the A.A. warriors Michael, Ben, Emily and Emma who with the help of their schools, parents and supporters ran aplastic anemia awareness campaigns and fundraisers at their schools. Many other businesses, community groups and schools got into the action as well. The money raised through OWR will allow JWF to help between 7 and 14 additional families! Every new person that learned about the disease may tell another, and support snowballs from there. Thank you. Together we are making a huge difference for children and families affected by aplastic anemia! |

This year the event was held at the picturesque Quaker Hill Country Club. Together we joined and united we stood to make a difference in the lives of children and their families fighting aplastic anemia. We are so grateful to all of those who were in attendance and to all who so generously donated as we raised approximately $30,000! We were truly honored to have Susan Robinson, Julia’s social worker from Boston Children’s Hospital, speak in loving memory of Julia and the importance of the work of Julia’s Wings Foundation. Susan stressed the financial impact this relentless disease has on families and the limited resources available at this time. We are now receiving applications almost on a weekly basis and there is no way JWF would be where we are in just 3 short years without all of you. So, from the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank you for your continued support of our mission!

The Julia’s Wings Foundation would like to thank all the guests and businesses who helped to make our 2nd annual Evening of Hope such a great success. We had over 160 people in attendance and raised approximately $25,000!!! We were honored to have guest speaker Dr. Karan Emerick from Connecticut Childrens Medical Center speak in loving memory of Julia. Dr. Emerick emphasized the importance of having a family member with their child during hospitalizations/treatment and the emotional and financial burden aplastic anemia places on the family. We were so happy to have the Veira family, from NJ, attend the Evening of Hope as we assisted their family in 2014. It truly was a beautiful evening filled with hope!
Back to Boston...
Julia looked forward to the prospect of going on her 8th grade Boston field trip with her class. She wasn't able to attain this goal, but an idea was born. For the second spring, Julia's Wings Foundation worked with the 8th grade (Alyssa's class) and collected boxes of arts and craft supplies and games to replenish the Resource Room on the hematology/oncology floor at Boston Children's Hospital in loving memory of Julia. |

Aplastic Anemia Awareness Week
Operation Wear Red
March 1st-7th, 2015
Aplastic Anemia is a rare and serious bone marrow disease which affects
600-900 Americans each year. This disease can strike people of any age,
race or gender. But it is more common among children, teenagers and
young adults. Federal funding is low because the number of lives
affected by it are considered small. It is still somebody’s daughter,
son, sister, brother, cousin, friend, aunt, uncle, mom, dad or
grandparent! It’s the non-profit organizations like JWF that are paving
the way with research funds targeted at finding a cure for Aplastic
Anemia. We can’t do it alone, we need your help!
Here are some of the awesome ideas from 2015!

SPRING CELEBRATION Shelter Rock Winery graciously selected Julia's Wings Foundation to receive a portion of the proceeds from this event. A check for $500 was awarded to JWF! Thank you to Felicia Saraceno for organizing the event and Giovanni Petretta owner of Shelter Rock Winery for your generosity and support! |
Our first step in reaching our goal for a cure is to raise awareness of this disease! You can help by making a donation of $1 and select a day during awareness week and wear anything RED! Make your school, business or organization RED. Some simple ideas are hockey/athletic tape, sport laces, armbands, ribbons – just to name a few. We can’t wait to hear your ideas! |
