Where Your Money Goes
While Julia was hospitalized countless times during the course of her illness, she was always troubled, not by her excruciating pain, but by seeing children having to fight for their lives, often without a parent by their side. The unfortunate reality is that many families cannot afford to stay by their child’s side. In addition, there is an absence of funding available for children with aplastic anemia, unlike other diseases such as cancer. Due to our two major annual fundraising events, the Evening of Hope Gala in the Spring and Team Julia’s Wings at the Kent Pumpkin Run in October, we have raised over $300,000. We are so truly grateful and know it could not have been possible without the overwhelming generosity of our donors and sponsors! Because of this generosity, we have been able to help over 200 families stay by the side of their children during their illness. We have provided financial assistance in excess of $200,00 to cover mortgage payments, medical and utility bills as well as assisting with lodging and costs of travel. We have also partnered with 83 hospitals as Julia’s Wings continue to reach across the United States.
Additionally, we are able to make a significant financial contribution towards medical research. The Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation matched our fundraising dollars for 2 named research funds, up to $60,000!! We are so excited for this opportunity to fund $120,000 in research in such a short time! This investment in medical research can truly make a difference with this disease, so hopefully other children and families will not have to know the pain and suffering aplastic anemia brought into the Malsin’s lives.

The Julia’s Wings Foundation will provide financial assistance to families who are caring for a critically ill child away from home. 100% of the money raised will be directly used to assist qualified families to offset their expenses and aid with the costs of travel, lodging, and other living expenses. The hope is that it will enable families to stay together during extended hospitalizations and ease the financial burden placed on them during the course of their child’s illness. In addition, Julia’s Wings Foundation seeks to promote the advancement of research for aplastic anemia through contributions to organizations and individuals dedicated to this endeavor.
